Lecturer of Philosophy
Bio
I specialize in ancient Greek philosophy. My research focuses on Plato鈥檚 discussions of moral virtue and their connections with closely related subjects such as happiness, love, friendship, moral vice, moral psychology, asceticism, knowledge, and philosophical education. I am drawn to ancient philosophers not only because of their staggering achievements, but also because I think we can benefit from carefully incorporating some of their ideas into our own thinking and daily lives. My secondary areas of interest include ancient Asian philosophy and the Existentialist tradition, but I admire, study, and teach major texts from the entire history of philosophy up to the present. Outside of my work, I spend much of my time listening to and making music, reading great books, traveling, and skiing with my friends.
